While occupying 14th place in 2022 in the crypto adoption index, Morocco is positioned 20th in the world this year, but remains leader in North Africa.
According to the latest global ranking of the crypto adoption index published by the American company Chainalysis, Morocco takes 20th position, losing 6 places compared to last year.
Despite this deterioration, Morocco remains the leader in North Africa, far ahead of neighboring countries. Indeed, Egypt is in 34th position, while Algeria is in 46th, Tunisia is in 54th and Libya is in 118th. This ranking comes despite the legal ban on the use of cryptocurrencies in current exchanges. At the end of 2022, the number of cryptocurrency holders in Morocco reached 1.15 million, mainly aged 20 to 30.
In this ranking, several lower middle income countries appear in pole position, notably those in the Central Asia region, South Asia and Oceania, with India in 1st place, followed by Vietnam occupying 3rd, Philippines 6th, Indonesia 7th and Pakistan 8th.
